This is an area that has attracted a lot of media attention recently with studies into the effect diet has on children’s development and their education, and there is some evidence to state that actually diet has a great impact on a child’s learning capability.
One area of the study looked at children who had a high sugar intake as part of their diet through sugary drinks and sweet food, the study found that these children were often hyper and disruptive in class causing their education to suffer and their concentration to lapse as they rode the sugar high then suffered the sugar crash an hour or so later.
The study also looked at the importance of hydration, particularly children drinking enough water throughout the day. Scientist have proved that by drinking water in small amounts throughout the day a child’s concentration is boosted quite dramatically and therefore their productivity is much greater.
There have been some links made in the past with behaviour disorders such as ADHD and poor diet and many have found a direct correlation in these however it’s an area that really needs more dedicated research in order to improve education across the board for children.
