Applying for work experience can seem quite strange if you’re a mature student or a student that has had previous employment, but if you want to break into a specialist industry, then work experience is compulsory.
It’s highly unlikely that an employer will take you on if you have no relevant work experience relating to their position. Even with a degree, they will see you as inexperienced, and what they’re looking for is an individual who has shown their passionate about breaking into their ideal industry, and work experience is a sign of motivation and dedication.
Work experience can often be taken during university and after, when you have more free time on your hands. If you have an area that you really want to get into then you’ll require some work experience, and it can mean finding time outside of you studies or employment, but its well worth doing, and it’s been the platform for many successful individuals in the UK.
