The new national primary school curriculum has many issues that people should be aware of. There seems to be a very checklist type approach to what should be covered within the school year and although this does make it easier to access each pupil and compare results, it does mean that there is the chance that lessons will be taught in a checklist type of way too.
Many teachers are finding that they have to spend a large percentage of their teaching time filling in spreadsheets and tick lists for each child. Although these results may be interesting is this really what we want our teachers to be doing rather than actually teaching?
This style of teaching is not really going to excite our young pupils and therefore could have an awful knock on effect of how much they actually learn and how good the education they receive is.
